Riding out an earth quake in a blacksmith shop

The CBC out of Canada is covering the recent earth quake that rocked northern California. Their article had a great section about a local blacksmith, who rode out the earth quake.

"In Ferndale, the owner of The Blacksmith Shop gallery was at work when the quake hit. Joseph Koches, 72, said he dropped to the floor and crawled to a doorway he had reinforced with iron after a 1992 earthquake."

Leave it to a blacksmith to re-enforce the door after the first one hits! Talk about being prepared!

If you ever go to Ferndale, be sure to visit the Blacksmith Shop Gallery. The website for the business is www.ferndaleblacksmith.com. What blacksmith wouldn't want to run a place like this? Ferndale is well known for it's vast number of Victorian houses. So I would imagine a blacksmith would have a real good market there to sell his wares and services.
